Lamar Odom has spoken candidly about his tumultuous marriage to Khloe Kardashian and admitted drugs were his 'girlfriend' as he reflected on his past mistakes.
The 43-year-old had his NBA career ended prematurely as a result of his drug abuse which also destroyed his relationship with 38-year-old Khloe and almost claimed his life.
In 2015, Lamar was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel after overdosing on what he later described as an "unholy concoction of cocaine, cognac and cannabis".
He was taken to hospital where doctors told his family and friends to prepare for his death.
In a trailer for his upcoming documentary, TMZ PRESENTS: Lamar Odom: Sex, Drugs & Kardashians , Lamar praised Khloe for her support during his darkest times.
"Drugs was my girlfriend. I had a wife and cocaine," he told host Harvey Levin.
When asked if Khloe knew about his drug abuse, Lamar said: "For part of our marriage. I had to tell her. We can't hide that forever."
Acknowledging the way the Kardashians star supported him even after their split, Lamar said: "Yeah, she did. I mean, behind the scenes I put her through some s**t.
"The things that y'all think y'all know is crazy. But the stories that y'all don't know is really crazy."
Lamar and Khloe started dating in September 2009 after meeting at a party for Odom's teammate Metta World Peace. The couple tied the knot that same month.
After weeks of speculation, Khloe filed for divorce from the basketball player in December 2013 just months after Lamar checked himself out of rehab after barely one day.
Their divorce was put on hold after Lamar was found unconscious as a result of a drug overdose.
In an interview with People, Khloe confirmed that the divorce had been withdrawn so that she could make medical decisions on Lamar's behalf.
Eventually, the divorce was finalised in December 2016.
Khloe later moved on with basketball player Tristan Thompson, with whom she shares two children — True, four, and a five-month-old son.
The couple parted ways in 2021 after it was revealed Tristan had fathered a child with another woman.
