Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis was examined after aggravating a left foot injury in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s 115-103 loss to the Detroit Pistons. The nine-time All-Star had been monitoring it since the summer. Davis, 31, also sustained a right foot stress injury in a matchup with the Denver Nuggets on Dec. 16, 2022.

During the play of his latest injury, Davis caught an entry pass from LeBron James to score with 4:46 remaining. When Davis planted his foot after jumping to catch the pass, the discomfort was triggered, causing him to wince as he made his way back down the court on defense.
“I’ll talk to my trainer and just kind of figure out what exactly is going on,” Davis said after the loss. “I’ve been managing it since this summer, honestly, and my goal for every game is to [play]. And I just kind of landed directly on the spot that’s been killing me. So, we’ll figure it out.”

Despite the injury setback, Davis has not been ruled out of the Lakers’ game at the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday to conclude the road trip, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“However, those sources cautioned, with the foot issue plaguing the All-Star big man from the end of last season through the Paris Olympics, it will be a day-to-day situation,” McMenamin reported.

Davis went on to finish with 37 points, nine rebounds, and four assists at Detroit. Although the 13-year veteran missed all four 3-point attempts, he shot 13-of-23 (56.5%) from the field and 11-of-14 (78.6%) at the free throw line.
Through seven games this season, he’s averaging 32.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.7 blocks, and 36.3 minutes per contest. The Chicago native is shooting a career-best 57.1% from the floor and 78.6% at the foul line as well.
Last week, Davis became the seventh Lakers player to score at least 150 points in the first five games of an NBA season. He joined Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, and George Mikan.
The Kentucky product also became just the third Lakers player to record back-to-back games with at least 35 points to open an NBA season, joining West (1969-70) and Baylor (1962-63).
Davis leads the league this season in points per game, field goals (80), and free throws (66). Plus, he ranks second in points (228), fourth in defensive rebounds (66), and second in player efficiency rating (31).
