Lakers' Anthony Davis Sidelined With Eye Contusion

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga (00) shoots against Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis (3) during the first half of an NBA basketball game in Los Angeles, Saturday, March 16, 2024

Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis encountered an unfortunate setback during Saturday night's game against the Golden State Warriors, as he sustained an eye injury that forced him to exit the game early. The Lakers organization confirmed that Davis will not be returning to the game due to an eye contusion.

The incident occurred in the first half of the game when Davis was driving to the basket for a layup and was inadvertently poked in the left eye by Golden State's Trayce Jackson-Davis. Despite initially continuing to play after the injury, Davis eventually had to leave the court as his eye began to swell shut. At the time of his departure, Davis had contributed eight points and four rebounds to the game.

Known for his exceptional performance on the court, Davis, a nine-time All-Star, has been a key player for the Lakers this season, averaging an impressive 24.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. Prior to this eye injury, Davis had only missed four games this season due to hip injuries.

With Davis ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Warriors, the Lakers will have to adjust their lineup for the upcoming match against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. The team will undoubtedly miss Davis's presence on the court, but his health and recovery are the top priority for the Lakers' coaching staff and medical team.

As fans eagerly await updates on Davis's condition and potential return to the court, the Lakers will continue to navigate the challenges of the NBA season, striving for success despite the setbacks they may face along the way.
