Lakeland sees surge for unlikely item at height of heatwave

As the UK experienced the highest temperatures on record and much of the country was warned of a hose pipe ban, Lakeland customers have been snapping up the unexpected and unseasonal item, electric blankets, with sales doubling compared to last year. Some lines are currently sold out and awaiting new stock to cope with the unprecedented demand such as the velvety electric heated throw, which has already sold over 12 times more than last year and had over 1,000 views in the last 24 hours.

Another heatwave winner is the Alaskan husky faux fur heated throw which has already sold more this month than the whole of January, as customers prepare ahead for the forecasted energy price hikes and look for alternatives to turning up the heating dial. The cosy throws which heat up in minutes cost pennies to run, so provide a cost-effective way to stay warm without having to heat the whole room.

Carly Bullock, Lakeland Buyer said: "During the last few weeks we have, not unsurprisingly, seen sales of ice cream makers up 51%, outdoor lights increase by over 50% and acrylic crystal-look glasses doubled. However, we were taken by surprise at the huge increase in the popularity of our heated throws, although maybe we shouldn’t have been as our customers are famously savvy and always on the lookout for clever at ways to save money and plan ahead so they can keep warm this winter."
