The end of summer does not mean the end of visitors to Lake Cumberland. The nonprofit group Eastern Kentucky Pride is looking for volunteers to help clean up the lake.
Volunteers will be working along the shore and in boats. Tammie Nazario is the President and CEO of Eastern Kentucky PRIDE. She said the cleanup event is open to pretty much anyone who wants to help.
“They just show up and they’ll sign a waiver. We have an adult waiver and a children’s waiver. They’ll sign that, they’ll get their gloves, vest, bags and then they’ll either, if they want to go out on the boat, they’ll wait for a boat to come in or they can go ahead and get started in the area they’re in.”
She says they will be working all over the lake and volunteers can bring their own boats.
“The Corps of Engineers also will have boats where they will take groups out to other locations along the lakeshore line. We do the shoreline, but not just at the immediate registration station, we do go out on the boats.”
The event will take place on Saturday at Lake Cumberland. Registration starts at 8AM. Clean up begins at 9AM and will go on until noon. The event is scheduled to happen rain or shine.
There are six different stations set up around the lake where volunteers can sign up and begin working.
