Lady Gaga may have skipped the star-studded Versace show last week but it seems she kept an eye on the runway, as she turned up to the Oscars red carpet last night wearing a catwalk look just three days after it was unveiled.
Gaga, who was nominated for her fourth Oscar for her original song Hold My Hand from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack, arrived on the red carpet wearing a plunging black gown from Versace’s AW23 collection, which was shown in Beverly Hills on Thursday evening.
All the biggest names in film and fashion were in attendance for the show, save for the pop queen herself. Miley Cyrus, Cher, Dua Lipa, Elton John and Anne Hathaway watched on as models Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid and others swept the runway in an abundance of brooding black outfits.
One of the final looks was a mesh and satin ensemble modelled by Gigi Hadid, with boning across the stomach and a sheer, almost-backless plunging rear that exposes the top of the buttocks.
This was Gaga’s choice for the 2023 Oscars, which she paired with similar striking, dark makeup to the Black Swan-esque runway glam, as well as a bright red lip and a selection of Tiffany & Co. jewellery.
The Applause singer accidentally ended up going viral for her time on the red carpet, though it had nothing to do with her outfit. While walking away from the step and repeat, Gaga spotted a photographer taking a tumble and immediately turned back on herself to help him up.

During the ceremony, Gaga changed out of her extravagant evening gown and makeup to perform her song Hold My Hand, which she did barefaced in a simple t-shirt and jeans.
The track failed to scoop up the award for Best Original Song, which was instead given to Naatu Naatu from the Telugu-language film RRR, but Gaga was kept in good company by fellow nominee Rihanna, who also performed at the ceremony yet went home empty handed.
This is the fifth Oscars red carpet that Gaga has walked and her second in Versace. She previously attended in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019, wearing Versace, Alaïa, Brandon Maxwell and Alexander McQueen respectively. In 2019 she took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for her and Bradley Cooper’s track Shallow from A Star Is Born.
She was also nominated for Best Actress that year, but was beaten out by Olivia Colman, who respectfully blew a kiss to Gaga in her speech.
