Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix rush to help fallen crew member on set of the Joker 2

Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix jumped to the rescue while filming new scenes for the Joker 2 after a crew member fell on the iconic Bronx steps.

The actors had been filming their upcoming movie in New York on Sunday when a crew member tripped over a railing, prompting Joaquin and Lady Gaga to spring into action.

They managed to help the man climb back onto the steps before filming was resumed.

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was in full costume as she took on the role of Harley Quinn.

The singer, 37, also wore a face full of makeup as filming continued for the second instalment of the Joker films, Folie a Deux.

She wore a black and white argyle corset top which features ruffled detailing and wore a black coat over the top.

Her costume also included a black leather miniskirt and matching patterned tights which were ripped at the knee.

The star wore a pair of black trainers which made it easier for her to dance down the staircase.

Her makeup was made up of a pale foundation and thick black eyeliner which was smudged around her eyes.

Lady Gaga also wore bright red lipstick which was also lightly smudged. To complete her look, she had her hair in a short blonde bob.

Joaquin wore a dirty grey suit which was paired with a beige shirt and striped tie.

He wore a pair of black sunglasses and had his long grey hair slicked back. The actor, 48, also wore some pale face makeup.

Joining the cast of the Joker, Lady Gaga is taking over from Margot Robbie, who made Harley Quinn iconic as she debuted as the character in DC film Suicide Squad in 2016.

It's understood that Joaquin's Joker role was set in a different universe to Suicide Squad's movies, where Jared Leto undertook the role.

The songstress is set to give her own spin to the character as she will appear alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming 2024 movie.

Margot previously told MTV she was pleased Gaga had taken the role.

She said: "It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.

"It's such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing."
