Lady Bay shop that community battled to save is to be turned into burger joint

A former corner shop will soon be transformed into a gourmet burger restaurant.

The Pricewise shop on Trent Boulevard in Lady Bay will be turned into a new Burg restaurant, after plans for the change were approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council.

The convenience store was closed in 2021, and will now be used to cook and deliver 'smashed burgers' to customers across the area.

The property will decorated with panels decorated in 'Burg' grey and a new fascia sign would also be installed to the front of the shopfront.

It will also be furnished with seating for up to 14 diners.

Burg already has a takeaway in Mapperley and will be opening a second branch in Bramcote Lane, Wollaton, at the former site of Homecraft Interiors.

The menu has a choice of 11 burgers including the 'Big Burg Khalifa' with triple beef and nachos, a number of buttermilk chicken burgers and a vegetarian bean burger.

A Rushcliffe Borough Council planning report said: "The proposal would be visually acceptable, would not impact on residential amenity and would not be harmful to highway safety.

"There would also be no adverse impact on the character and appearance of the area."

The council received 18 comments of support over the plan, which argued that the restaurant would improve the variety of food shops, support local businesses and encourage people to use the area.

There were also 24 objections received, which included worries that it would create traffic and parking problems, result in noise pollution and would result in anti-social behaviour.

Residents had previously campaigned to save the Pricewise store when a Co-op opened in the neighbourhood and had mixed feelings about the plan.

The application was granted planning permission by Rushcliffe Borough Council on March 2.
