More often than not, the northern hemisphere’s summer fashion trends are passed onto us southern hemisphere folk as they hang up their hats and get ready for winter. And this year, one of the biggest trends making its way across the globe is lace shorts.
We’re in a boho revival. After all, we’re in a boho revival, and if 2026 is the new 2016, it makes sense that shorts (often silk) with a lace trim have reentered the chat.
How we got here
Lace shorts have been trickling into trend cycle for a little while now alongside bohemian fashion’s rise in popularity. But the first key-defining moment that solidified them infiltrating the mainstream was when Hailey Bieber, Charli XCX and Rosé all wore lingerie-like shorts and rompers to the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2026 runway at Paris Fashion Week last year. When Hailey Bieber wears something, droves of loyal fans follow.
Model Bella Hadid is another It Girl responsible for establishing this as a summer trend. Earlier this year, she was papped on a boat wearing California brand Dôen’s Iona Short ($510), a vintage-inspired silk short with a climbing lace hem. These shorts went so viral afterwards, they made it to position eight on The Lyst Index’s Q2 report (a quarterly report on the most globally sought-after brands and products each quarter).
On top of all the celebrity endorsement, lace was everywhere at Copenhagen Fashion Week 2026 last month, both as street style and on the runway at shows. We’re not just getting served lace trim shorts — it’s a full on lace revival!
How to style lace trim shorts
The great thing about lace shorts is they’re pretty fool proof to style. You can roll out of bed, change out of your pyjama top, and you’re essentially good to go. But TBH, the pyjama look is in (it’s how Bella Hadid styled her Dôen shorts), so if you have a cute matching set, you could finish off the look with some knee-high boots and an over-sized tote bag. If the PJ look isn’t for you but you still want to keep things casual, you can’t go wrong with a graphic baby tee.
Alternatively, if you want to dress up your shorts for a nighttime event, you could lean into the lingerie-look and pair your shorts with a semi-sheer top and matching bra. Otherwise if you prefer to keep a little more covered-up, a fitted halter top will give off an effortlessly put-together effect. That, paired with closed toe pointed heels, and you’ve got yourself the perfect date night or dinner look.
Now onto the main event! We’ve done some digging and found the best lace trim shorts on the internet RN if you want to ready your spring and summer wardrobe for a boho season ahead.
