'Labour's Keir Starmer is on the money in bid to ease cost of living crisis'

Labour leader Keir Starmer is on the money in calling for an emergency Budget to ease the cost of living crisis.

Soaring fuel bills and surging food prices, inflation hitting a 30-year high and households hurting from the worst squeeze in living standards since the 1950s require a Government on the side of the people.

Instead, the Conservatives are raising overall taxes to rates last endured shortly after the end of the Second World War.

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are emptying wage packets and bank accounts at precisely the moment folk need more money.

Labour’s windfall tax on unearned bonanzas for energy producers and tax cuts would ease some of that pain.

We don’t care if the Conservatives steal Labour’s better plans. What we would like to see is action. Polls show that people are desperate for help.

The Tories deserve to pay for making life worse.

Vile lies have been told about Angela Rayner (ITV)

Tory is toxic

Vile lies have been told about Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner by a misogynistic Tory under the cloak of anonymity.

The nasty party isn’t back. It never truly went away.

And the Tory fantasist inventing smears about the formidable Labour MP needs help.

It also provides a revealing insight into the backward, toxic views within a governing party disintegrating before our very eyes.

Johnson, a Prime Minister lacking personal morality, sets the tone and if he had a gram of integrity, he would launch a probe to name, shame and punish this Tory dinosaur.

Ms Rayner is a remarkable woman, a working class inspiration. Perhaps that’s what the Tories fear most of all.

Boxing clever

Tyson Fury’s boxing triumph at Wembley was another compelling chapter in the “bad boy made good” story.

Nobody should sportswash the Gypsy King’s controversial past but, equally, he deserves respect for beating the odds to rule the world.
