Labour hold on to seat in Highland Council election

LABOUR have managed to hold on to their Inverness Central seat in the Highland Council by-election.

Michael Gregson was elected as the new councillor for the Inverness Central ward on Friday.

He will join the two SNP councillors Michael Cameron and Kate MacLean in representing the ward.

The by-election was triggered following the resignation of Bet McAllister who left his role as a Labour councillor to retire.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar congratulated Gregson on his win as he posted on social media: “A fantastic Scottish Labour win in Inverness Central! Congratulations to Michael Gregson and the whole team.

“Scottish Labour is ready to deliver the change Scotland needs.”

There were six candidates on the ballot for the local election and the turnout was 20.3%.
