Civil war erupted in Labour as Sir Keir Starmer and his allies blocked a Commons comeback for Andy Burnham who said he was “disappointed” by the ruling.
A panel of Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee (NEC) met on Sunday and rejected Mr Burnham’s request to stand to be the party’s candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, by eight votes to one.
