A branch of the Labour party in Huyton was suspended amid claims of misconduct.
St Gabriel’s ward branch in Huyton was suspended amid allegations of misconduct earlier this month and it is understood an investigation is currently underway into claims of harassment.
Knowsley’s Labour group lost a seat in St Gabriel‘s ward at the recent local elections after candidate Jo Schumacher failed to secure enough votes, with Knowsley Greens winning by over 200 votes – a key victory against the ruling Labour group.
The branch had been at the heart of controversy prior to the election after the sitting councillor Crispin Evans was deselected, allegedly for “asking too many questions”. After Cllr Evans’ deselection, Jo Schumacher was selected as his replacement.

Concerns have been raised that the suspension of the branch means members will be unable to attend meetings of the constituency labour party (CLP). The incumbent MP George Howarth recently announced he would be standing down, with rumours swirling around potential replacements.
With members unable to attend constituency meetings, they will be unable to take part in any selection meetings concerning Mr Howarth’s replacement.
The Labour party was approached for comment about the branch’s suspension but has not responded to requests for comment.
The CLP was also contacted but the ECHO was told it would be inappropriate to comment given an ongoing investigation taking place.
