Labour and Lib Dem leaders demand general election after resignation of Liz Truss

Sir Keir Starmer has called for a general election following the resignation of Liz Truss. The Prime Minister revealed she was stepping down following a tumultous premiership of just 45 days.

It makes her the shortest-serving prime minister in UK history. Starmer, leader of the Labour party immediately renewed calls for a general election.

In a statement, he said: "The Conservative Party has shown it no longer has a mandate to govern. After 12 years of Tory failure, the British people deserve so much better than this revolving door of chaos.
