A Los Angeles family has been left facing a huge utility bill after keeping their home cool during a period of intense summer heat.

Micah Reed, who lives in the San Fernando Valley with his wife and two sons, said his September bill from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) came to about $3,300 (£2,484).
