Financial services firm Legal & General will shortly start relocating staff in Cardiff to a new HQ at the city centre Interchange scheme.
L&G, which currently employs around 2,200 staff in the city at its Brunel House and Knox Court office locations, will bring all staff under one roof at 120,000 sq ft of new office space at the Interchange which forms part of Central Square. The development will also providing a new bus station, operated by Transport for Wales, and more than 300 build to rent apartments from L&G Homes.
L&G said it will have small groups in the building from the end of this month testing technology, with a large scale trail group in July.
It added: “Our people will then start moving in from August over roughly 10 weeks, with the aim to have everyone in by the end of quarter three.
On its hybrid working model it said: “We’ve empowered our teams to choose the balance between home and office that’s right for them and their customers, so we won’t have mandated number of days in the office. Typically though around 50% of our people are in the office at any one time.”
On potential expansion in Cardiff L&G said: We have over 2,200 people based in our Cardiff operation. Part of the purpose of this new office is to continue to attract the best talent in Wales. The office has been designed to grow as L&G’s business in Wales grows.”
The office building, designed by Holder Mathias Architects, provides flexible spaces for collaboration, with almost half of the office dedicated to formal and informal meeting space. Technology incorporated will enable hybrid ways of working, as well as the monitoring of building usage and energy performance in real-time.
L&G has entered into a 25 year lease on its new headquarters. It was forward funded by L&G’s capital fund and on its completion was acquired by its long-term Limited Price Inflation Fund The Interchange scheme has been delivered by property development firm Rightacres with ISG the main contractor.
