Kym Marsh gives update on dad's cancer on BBC Morning Live as her mum gets emotional

Kym Marsh has given an update on her dad's health, confirming that his cancer has spread. The former Coronation Street actress revealed last summer that her father Dave had been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer.

She said that Dave had delayed going to the doctors due the coronavirus pandemic before sharing the devastating news that the disease had spread to her dad's pelvis, spine, ribs and left leg.

In a fresh update, Kym appeared as host on BBC's Morning Live alongside Dave and her mum, Pauline, to speak with the former singer's co-host Gethin Jones. When asked how he was feeling on Friday morning (June 17), Dave admitted that as he's on his medication he's "not too bad."

Kym's parents appeared on the programme together to share the importance of getting your prostate checked. Speaking about a recent doctor's appointment, which Dave can now have people with him in, Kym said: "It was really good, Tuesday this week we were able to all go together to your latest appointment.

"That was really good for lots of reasons really. One because there are questions that we have as a family and sometimes when I ask what happened at the appointment you guys forget! It was really good for me to be able to be there."

Discussing the results of Dave's latest tests, Gethin said: "We were expecting that the cancer had spread because of your later PSA blood results. Your PSA levels had risen again in your blood. We were just concerned at how far it had spread and whether or not they were going to be able to give you any more treatment.

"The good news was although it has spread, it's not gone to any of his organs so they were able to offer him another form of treatment which is called radium."

Kym's mum Pauline then spoke about the support they've received as she broke down in tears. She said: "Last week, that was the first time that we had Macmillan nurses on board which was brilliant, as I know I've got my family.

"I get upset sorry, I hadn't had any support from anywhere else and didn't know what to do. Dave didn't really understand his painkillers and how to take them and all that so they explained it all."

Dr Ranj was also on hand to share the symptoms of prostate cancer with viewers before Dave said he was "stupid" for not getting his own symptoms checked earlier.

"I should have done and I didn't and this is what has happened to me," he said before encouraging: "Any men out there that you think you need a check, get it done. Don't linger just get it done." Pauline then added: "The sooner the better."
