You might find this hard to believe, but another artist almost sang Kylie Minogue's mega hit song Padam Padam.
The Australian singer's synth-pop banger became a viral sensation after it was released last summer, inspiring countless TikTok creations, memes and videos and it's now hard to imagine anyone else owning it like her.
British Grammy Award nominated producer Lostboy – real name Peter Rycroft – has revealed that Minogue was not the first artist that the track went to.
"There was a moment when Rita was going to cut [Padam Padam]," he told The Sun. "It was worming around a few artists on that label [both Kylie and Rita are signed to BMG]."
In a further bombshell, Rycroft claimed that label bosses initially "didn't think [the song] was for Kylie," before having a change of heart and sending it on to her.
Ora and Rycroft would have made sense as they previously collaborated together on 2020 single, How To Be Lonely, which was co-written by Lewis Capaldi.
Padam Padam marked Minogue's biggest hit in more than a decade.
It also served as the lead track from her sixteenth studio album Tension, which debuted at number one in the UK album chart upon its release in September, becoming her ninth number one album.
Speaking about Padam Padam's success to Music Week, Minogue, who originally found fame on Aussie soap Neighbours, said: “The song’s catchy, hypnotic, modern, a bit kooky and a really good fit for me.
"We all had high hopes for the song, but I don’t think any of us expected it to take off the way it did as a viral hit. So I’m going along with the ride and we’ve had to pivot as well – because it was unexpected.”
