Kylie Minogue has broken her silence on her legal row with Kylie Jenner.
The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer took the reality TV star to court in 2017 when both wanted to name their cosmetic ranges ‘Kylie’.
The older and more established Kylie won – but the 54-year-old has since said it was “just business”.
Appearing on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in the US, the Princess of Pop open up about the trademark row.
“It was just business, obviously,” she revealed.
Explaining why it was necessary to take the case to court, she explained: “Look, when I was named Kylie, I think I met one person older me called Kylie. So it’s kind of unusual.”

She continued: “I’ve spent a lifetime protecting my brand and building my brand, so it was just something that had to be done.”
High-fiving Kylie, TV host Andy yelled: “Yes it did!” as the audience applauded.
“But let me also say we came to an agreement,” Kylie added.
“Yes you did,” said Andy before asking Kylie: “Did you like have to call Kris Jenner and be like ‘Let me tell you something?’”
Kylie replied: “No, but I’d love to meet them.”
Kylie Jenner first applied to trademark her name back in 2014 – a year before she officially launched her beauty empire, which is now worth $1 billion.
But in early 2016, court documents revealed pop star Kylie Minogue had formally opposed the application.
She described Jenner as "a secondary reality television personality who appeared on the television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians as a supporting character."
While Kylie Minogue was described as an “internationally-renowned performing artist, humanitarian and breast cancer activist known worldwide simply as “Kylie”.’
Minogue already owned various trademarks, including the name 'Kylie' for the services of education and entertainment.
She had already sold products like perfume and clothes under the name ‘Kylie’ and has owned the domain name kylie.com since August 21, 1996 - a year before Jenner was born.
Her legal team said allowing Jenner to use the singular name ‘Kylie’ would cause possible confusion and “damage” to Minogue’s branding.
In 2017, it was announced the reality star's application had been rejected by the United States’ Patent and Trademark Office.
Jenner has since traded under the name Kylie Cosmetics, starting out selling lip kits to become one of the biggest celebrity beauty brands of all time.
Two years after the ruling, Kylie Minogue launched her own range of makeup in 2019 under the name ‘Kylie’.
