From Liverpool’s perspective, pretty much the entire summer was spent with rumours speculating whether the club would sign a new midfielder.
It has been a topic of debate ever since the departure of Gini Wijnaldum on a free transfer in 2021. Ever since, rumours have gathered pace of which player the Reds may be bringing in.
As it turned out, Liverpool only brought in one new midfielder this summer and it was a loan deal. Arthur Melo arrived from Juventus until the end of the season, although he is currently sidelined with a muscle injury for several weeks.
