Kylian Mbappe fitness update issued as France prepare for England clash

France defender Ibrahima Konate has eased concerns about the fitness of Kylian Mbappe ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against England.

Mbappe, who is the top scorer at the tournament, missed training on Tuesday night, sparking speculation he was struggling with fitness.

The forward, however, was still working indoors on an exercise bike and Liverpool centre-back Konate has cooled talk Mbappe is struggling to be fit to face England.

“We haven’t really spoken about it at all,” he said, when asked about Mbappe’s fitness.

“He was just resting yesterday. He had a different kind of training session to do. There was nothing worrying about that. Nothing surprising either.

“He is incredibly impressive. But I am not surprised. He has been showing this level for years. He is getting better and better. I don’t know where he can stop.

“What is impressive is his speed and tactical abilities. We are lucky he is on our team and not against us.”
