Kylian Mbappe has declared all-out war over his transfer saga - and that could force his departure to Real Madrid.
Mbappe has created a stand-off with Paris Saint Germain by doubling down on his intention to quit as a free agent when his contract expires next summer. But PSG will not run the risk of losing the World Cup winner for nothing - missing out on a potential £150m transfer fee - and they could be forced to sell in this window.
However, Premier League clubs are unlikely to be able to tempt him to English football as the France superstar has always had his heart set on one day playing for Real Madrid.
That was expected to happen next summer but the escalating war of words with PSG could also have implications for Harry Kane as Real Madrid will now switch all of their intentions to signing Mbappe.
Mbappe is the most sought-after striker in the world and Real Madrid nearly got him 12 months ago - and are now determined to get their man. Real Madrid are in pole position and are now waiting to see if Mbappe will force through a move this summer.
Mbappe reacted angrily to suggestions that his decision not to sign for another year - which he delivered in a letter to PSG - and insisted they knew all along.
PSG striker Mbappe said in a statement: “PSG has been informed since July 15, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter that was sent only served to confirm what I had already told them.”
The World Cup winner also took to social media to deny claims that he had already made up his mind on a switch to the Bernabeu to join Real Madrid.
Mbappe added: “LIES… At the same time, the bigger it is, the more it passes. I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG where I am very happy.”
