Kylian Mbappe appears to send hidden dig to Neymar after PSG team-mate branded "annoying"

Kylian Mbappe appeared to aim a dig at team-mate Neymar during his post-match comments after Paris Saint-Germain's defeat at home to Bayern Munich.

PSG lost 1-0 to the Bundesliga champions in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. It was a repeat of the scoreline from the 2020 final, right down to former PSG youngster Kingsley Coman getting the goal, while Mbappe had a late goal disallowed after a VAR check.

While the Ligue 1 leaders face an uphill battle to qualify for the quarter-finals, French international Mbappe insisted the contest wasn't over. However, in doing so, the former Monaco man appeared to reignite an on-off feud with Brazil star Neymar.

“We have to look at the end of the game, we were disadvantaged but we managed to cause them issues," Mbappe told Canal+ (as translated by Get French Football News ) after returning from injury against Bayern. "We’re going over there [Munich] to qualify.

"We worked day and night," he added. "Our players have to be in good health for the return leg, everyone needs to eat and sleep well. They’re not comfortable when we play attacking football.”

It is the comment about eating and sleeping well which some have interpreted as a dig at Neymar. The former Barcelona star recently angered neighbours with at least one loud and late house party, according to reports in France, with the mayor of Bougival - where the Brazilian lives - making reference to "prodigiously annoying" celebrations.

The bad blood between Mbappe and Neymar dates back to a feud over the order of penalty takers. The pair were given a dressing down by sporting director Luis Campos after an incident in August, just a few months after Mbappe signed a bumper new deal to extend his stay in Paris.

Things has appeared to be okay on the pitch, at least, with the team-mates combining brilliantly for PSG's first Champions League goal of the campaign in September. Christophe Galtier's team went through the entire group stage unbeaten, but were pipped to top spot by Benfica on the away-goals tie-breaker to set up the meeting with a Bayern side who won all six of their group games.

Les Parisiens were also unbeaten in Ligue 1 before the break for the World Cup, where Mbappe finished the tournament as top scorer. They have lost three of their eight games since the return, while also suffering a Coupe de France elimination at the hands of Marseille, with the latest league defeat prompting the France international to urge unity in the squad amid reports of Neymar being critical of summer arrivals Vitinha and Hugo Ekitike.
