Kyle Magennis will not return for Hibs this season after undergoing surgery for a knee injury.
The 23-year-old, who last played in September, confirmed he will not be available to help his side's top six push in the Scottish Premiership.
The former St Mirren man provided Shaun Maloney a boost when he returned to training in January, following a groin injury which had sidelined him for more than three months.
However, he then picked up a knee injury in a bounce game, which led to a further setback.
Providing an update on his situation on social media today, Magennis said: "Gutted my season is over, but surgery went well."
He also detailed his intention to return for the Hibees in pre-season.
Magennis joined Hibs from the Buddies in October 2020, agreeing a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
He has had no shortage of injury problems to seek, having previously recovered from a cruciate ligament injury.
Maloney is an admirer of the midfielder and has been impressed with what he has seen of the player.
He told the Edinburgh Evening News: "Even what I saw when I analysed the team before coming here, he stood out as a really strong runner from midfield with a big goal threat, and that’s certainly something we've missed from that area of the pitch."
