It’s been a tough season for the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray. A year after qualifying for their first postseason since 2015, the Cardinals are just 4-8. They’re at the point where their effort is being openly questioned on national television. Meanwhile, Kliff Kingsbury continues to show he doesn’t seem to have many answers to fix their problems. As a result, they’re one of the NFC’s bottom feeders as we near the stretch run of the 2022 season.
With controversy surrounding Arizona and Murray — who has struggled in his fourth season as a pro, especially compared to a past high standard of play — some close to the QB might feel compelled to share their thoughts on him. Enter Murray’s former Cardinals teammate Patrick Peterson.
During a recent appearance on CBS Sports “All Things Covered” podcast, Peterson — who now plays for the Minnesota Vikings — discussed his opinion of the ongoing chaos in Arizona. When the discussion came to the point of who might be to blame for Arizona’s failures and who might be getting scapegoated, Peterson openly called Murray selfish, saying, “Kyler Murray don’t care about nobody but Kyler Murray.”

Murray would catch wind of Peterson’s searing criticism, and he wasn’t happy. Given their relationship as past teammates, he called the cornerback out for making such an insinuation of his character in public:
It’s hard to disagree with Murray’s general sentiment. If Peterson felt this way about Murray, he probably could’ve mentioned this to him when the two were teammates from 2019 to 2020. Airing this apparent dirty laundry out in public would understandably and likely upset many people. (Note: Peterson’s Vikings defeated the Cardinals 34-26 earlier this year.)
After falling way short of some’s preseason expectations, Murray and the Cardinals are currently on a bye week. Having ideally addressed their issues, they’ll return to face the Patriots at home in Week 14. It’ll be a tall order to work their back from the apparent brink, but it would be one heck of a way for Murray to stick it to Peterson indirectly.
Though something tells me this incident might only be the start of a quarterback-cornerback beef.
