Kyle Magennis in Hibs 'point to prove' as he bids to change Rangers memories after cruciate injury

Kyle Magennis admits he has a 'point to prove' as he looks to silence any doubters.

The Hibs midfielder is looking forward to the rest of the campaign starting with Rangers, with the showdown feeling like the start of a new season for him. Ibrox doesn't hold good memories for the capital star after he suffered a cruciate injury in Govan but he is out to banish those bad memories for good ones.

Lee Johnson's men went into the World Cup shutdown on a poor run of form and face a difficult run of fixtures on their return to competitive action starting against Michael Beale's troops in his dugout bow tonight. Games with Livingston, Celtic and Hearts follow as the Leith outfit bid to get their season back up and running in their bid to challenge for the top six and European places come the business end of the season.

Magennis said: “I did my cruciate there, so it’s not a good place. It would definitely be good to change the memories.

“I’ve got a point to prove. Some fans or some people may doubt me but I need to go and prove to them and go and prove to myself that I am the player that I was before. I truly believe I am.

“I played a few games before the break but having another few weeks to get myself fit and play some bounce games has definitely helped. It feels like the start of the season for me. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and staying clear of injuries. Hopefully I can kick on.

“We have a difficult run of games coming, we just need to believe in ourselves. These are the games you want to play in, against the Old Firm and the Edinburgh derby, you want to show what you can do in these matches.”
