Kyle Lafferty has been tipped for a move to Linfield after his shock exit from Kilmarnock.
The Northern Ireland legend left Rugby Park on deadline day due to a “disciplinary matter,” with boss Derek McInnes admitting it wasn't something he wanted to happen. Lafferty had recently completed a ten-match ban after being found guilty of using sectarian language in a video that emerged on social media last year.
McInnes said he's now light on strikers after Oli Shaw signed for Barnsley, and would have liked to have kept Lafferty, but explained that it was a conversation between the player and the Killie board that led to the decision and that he had to now move on from it. Lafferty is now a free agent and is on the lookout for his 15th club of a much travelled career that started out in England with Burnley 18 years ago.
Now Bangor City boss Lee Feeney has suggested that a move home could be on the cards. Lafferty, who supported Linfield as well as Rangers growing up, is a former Rangers and international teammate of Blues boss David Healy, and Feeney reckons that he is the only man who knows how to properly handle the ex-Norwich City and Hearts front man.
"I don't know what Kyle is at right now," Feeney told Belfast Live's That's What I Call Football. If David Healy doesn't sign him I don't think there would be too many others looking to bring him in. David knows him very well and has had opportunities to get him, but he has never gone and got him.
"I don't know the ins and outs, but Kyle is going from club to club and there is no stability there. You don't know what is coming next for him. He is a free agent so he can go to anyone, which makes it interesting. That's maybe why Healy let wee Jordan Stewart go. Maybe there is something in the works.
"It would be good for the league if Kyle came here. And David is probably the only manager who knows how to handle him. You never know, and I am sure David has thought about it. I'm sure other Irish League clubs would get the backing to bring Kyle in. Fans would help fund it, or board of directors would find money. Whether Kyle would fancy that, I don't know. He has done some travelling over the years and played in different countries."
