Kyle Dempsey has already told Bolton Wanderers what he can offer in Gillingham transfer chase

Bolton Wanderers are seeking to add Gillingham captain Kyle Dempsey to their ranks this transfer window.

Ian Evatt has targeted the Gills skipper to bolster his options in central midfield.

Wanderers have submitted a second bid for the player after the first one was rejected out of hand and Bolton are waiting to hear back from the Kent club on the matter.

Dempsey has been at Gillingham since 2020 but his contract at Priestfield runs out this summer as things stand and would be available to leave for nothing around five months from now if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.

The midfielder would fill another space in that department for Wanderers, after gaps emerged in that area of the squad following the departure of former captain Antoni Sarcevic and the injury which ended Josh Sheehan's campaign prematurely.

Dempsey has played more than 60 times for the Gills and scored nine goals and arrived at Gillingham following a career which has seen him have spells at Carlisle United, Huddersfield Town, Peterborough United and Fleetwood Town.

And Dempsey has already set out the type of player he is and what Wanderers could have on their hands, should they get the deal over the line.

After a lean spell in front of goal at Fleetwood, Dempsey targeted having more of an impact in the final third at the Gills and points towards what he could offer Bolton if he arrives at the Whites.

Speaking after joining the Gills to the club's YouTube channel in the summer of 2020, Dempsey said: "I'd just say I'm a box to box midfielder. I never stop, I give 110% every time.

"One thing I'll probably say to the Gillingham fans is that probably the last two or three years at Fleetwood, I haven't been as productive in setting goals up and scoring goals and I think that for me is the main focus coming down here.

"It was a conversation I had with the manager that he wants me back scoring goals and setting goals up where I actually started my career off doing that.

"That's definitely going to be a main aim for me coming down here and getting back on that scoresheet and creating goals for this club."
