The Ohio State football team welcomed another into the brotherhood when Kye Stokes became the first freshman of the spring to lose his black stripe. Stokes is the second overall Buckeye to shed the black, joining Oklahoma State transfer Tanner McCalister.
Stokes is a four-star recruit from Seffner, Florida. He was not the highest-rated prospect coming in at No. 357 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but clearly, he’s making a name for himself and proving the rankings aren’t always the final say.
Listen to what the young man had to say about having his black stripe removed. Nothing but love for his scarlet and gray brothers.
“I mean, I just came in here ready to work man. I love ya’ll boys with all my heart. Go Bucks!”

Stokes has clearly made an impression on his coaches and teammates. It will be interesting to see where he fits in as a true freshman in Jim Knowles’ new defensive scheme.
