The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) on Tuesday said it achieved a historic milestone by surpassing a turnover of Rs 1.87 lakh crore for the first time in the financial year 2025-26. Manoj Kumar, Chairman of KVIC, said that turnover surged nearly sixfold—an unprecedented growth of 501%—from Rs 31,154 crore in 2013-14. Last year, the sector had witnessed sales of approximate Rs 1.70 lakh crore, as per a PIB release.
Kumar said KVIC's remarkable performance is accelerating the resolution of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ and significantly contributing to positioning India among the world’s leading economies. “The sector has witnessed phenomenal growth. New employment avenues will emerge due to the extraordinary, day-and-night work by our artisans. Today, KVIC is generating employment for more than 20 million people versus 13 million in 2013-14,” he said while addressing a press conference at the KVIC office in the national capital.
KVIC will launch its own Khadi e-commerce portal in the coming days that will be modern in scope and appeal to Gen Z in good measure, he said. “We are readying it. Our digital structure ecosystem will undergo a complete revamp.”
