Kulkarni is now Karnatak SC coach

MUMBAI: Former Mumbai wicketkeeper Sulakshan Kulkarni has become the new coach of Karnatak Sporting, who play in 'A' Division of the Dr HD Kanga League. Delayed by a week due to incessant rains, this season of the Kanga League will kick off on August 7.

Allrounder Shivam Dube, 'keeper-bat Eknath Kerkar, who now plays for Goa, and veteran off-spinning allrounder Ankeet Chavan play for Karnatak SC. Kulkarni has played for, mentored and coached Apollo CC, another 'A' division club in local cricket, for the past decade.

Kulkarni had coached Mumbai for three seasons from 2011-12 to 2014-15- a period in which they won the Ranji Trophy in the 2012-13 season. He also coached Vidarbha and Chattisgarh and was a batting coach with Nepal.

"Maidan cricket is the oxygen of Mumbai cricket. I'm glad to be associated with maidan cricket and Mumbai cricket. I would love to groom a bunch of talented youngsters at Karnatak SC. I've fond memories of captaining them in 2006, and leading them to the Kanga League 'B' Division title back then," Kulkarni told TOI on Tuesday.
