Churachandpur: Kuki organisations in Churachandpur on Tuesday organised a rally carrying mock 'coffins' in order to pay tribute to the 10 Kuki-Zo youths who died in alleged gunfight with security forces in Jiribam .
Hundreds of people participated in the raly with holding placards seeking justice for those killed, and a separate administration in the hill areas.

One of the organisers has informed that 10 symbolic coffins will be carried during the rally to offer tribute to the deaceased, as their bodies remain in the mortuary of a local hospital.
They urge schools to send children
Earlier, the Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF), Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) and Hmar Students' Association (HSA), in a joint statement, called for schools and colleges to send their students from Class 10 onwards to take part in the rally.
Over 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence which erupted in May 2023. The tension is going on between the Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kuki-Zo groups.
10 militants killed in Jiribam
On November 11, ten militants were killed in Jiribam district in gunfight with the Central Reserve Police Force and Civil Police.
Police said that a CRPF constable also sustained injury and is being treated. Arms and ammunition was also recovered from the site of the encounter site. (With Agency Inputs)
