A campaign is underway this week to raise awareness about the crime of human trafficking. It’s a joint endeavor by the Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. KSP Officer Steve Douglas said truckers may observe trafficking signs at truck stops and rest areas.
“So, oftentimes they’re in the right place at the right time and oftentimes if they can see these signs or flags, they can alert law enforcement to help to maybe put a stop to this horrible crime,” said Douglas.
The campaign includes the distribution of wallet cards, posters, and window decals. Throughout this week, KSP will actively document its human trafficking and outreach efforts, contributing data to the broader Alliance initiative. Douglas noted human trafficking impacts people of all ages and backgrounds.
“Not only is it sex traffic, but it can also be labor traffic. So, there’s no specific set group of people that it targets. It can target anybody,” said Douglas.
Douglas said part of the state police commitment to human trafficking awareness includes its mobile substance abuse trailer. It features displays about the dangers involving this crime.
