New Delhi: The festival of Janmashtami is being celebrated with great enthusiasm, traditional fervour and reverence across the country today. Devotees are flocking in huge numbers to the temples for the Darshan of Lord Krishna.
People participate in midnight prayers, as it is believed Lord Krishna was born at midnight. Temples are beautifully decorated, and idols of Krishna are adorned with new clothes and jewelry. Traditional songs and dances, known as "Raslila," depict the life and playful antics of Krishna.

The birthplace of Lord Krishna, Mathura is tastefully decorated to celebrate this auspicious occasion. Special preparations are done in Vrindavan and Mathura, where people from all over the world arrive at Krishna's holy city. Here every corner bursts with joy and devotion.

Maharashtra "Dahi Handi"
In many parts of the country, especially Maharashtra, the "Dahi Handi" event is a highlight, where teams form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd, symbolizing Krishna's love for butter.
Mahakaleshwar Temple
Special Bhasma Aarti was performed at Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain on Krishna Janmashtami.
On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, numerous devotees gathered at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain and offered prayers. A special Bhasma Aarti was performed, during which Baba Mahakal (Lord Shiva) was adorned as Kanha (Shri Krishna).
President Droupadi Murmu
On the occasion, President Droupadi Murmu has extended her greetings on Janmashtami to all countrymen.
