Kris Doolan confirmed as Partick Thistle boss with Firhill hero tasked with promotion push

Partick Thistle have confirmed Kris Doolan as their new manager.

The Jags legend took over the role on an interim basis following the departure of Ian McCall last month. McCall was sacked by Thistle just hours after their Scottish Cup defeat to Rangers at Ibrox in February.

It's understood Thistle had already decided McCall's fate before that match after an inconsistent campaign in the Championship with the Firhill hierarchy so keen for a return to the top flight. It's not a short term deal for Doolan but the length of contract is not being specified.

Doolan, who had been coaching the under18s, was put in temporary charge. He won his firsts match against Ayr United, drew away at Arbroath and then won 3-1 at Dundee in midweek. That was enough to clinch the deal.

Academy director Paul McDonald will continue supporting him in his role as interim assistant manager too. A statement from Thistle on the announcement read: "We are delighted to announce that Kris Doolan has been appointed as first team manager.

"Kris will take the managerial reigns on a full-time basis starting tomorrow against Raith Rovers – his first game in the dugout at Firhill."

The Jags are in fifth place but level on points with Ayr and Morton. Dundee are three ahead with league leaders Queen's Park a further four in front.
