Kris Boyd tells SFA chiefs 'I hope you kept the receipt' in latest VAR outburst

Kris Boyd delivered his latest rant in a series of VAR outbursts as he told Scottish Premiership chiefs: 'I hope you kept the receipt'.

VAR has found itself shrouded with more controversy this weekend after Motherwell's Kevin van Veen was adjudged to have been offisde - though those behind the screen later apologised after ruling that they had reviewed the wrong phase of play, writes Football Scotland.

That followed a precarious call just 24 hours earlier when Graeme Shinnie was sent off against Ross County for Aberdeen on the Friday evening after a late challenge with Jack Baldwin.

Fans appear to have their tails up against the way in which the video assistant works at present - leading to more fume amongst stakeholders, and Boyd was the latest to venture on a rant about the current system claiming that even offside decisions are being warped despite being a black and white decision.

And the Rangers legend further challenged those in charge by issuing them with a warning - stating that he hopes SPFL chiefs have 'kept the receipt'.

Speaking on the Sky Sports coverage of Kilmarnock vs Celtic, he said: "It's been six months, seven months. We heard there were going to be teething problems, seriously. If I was still having the problems, I would've taken it back. I hope we have a receipt for it!

"It's been absolutely terrible, I don't care what anybody says. We have sat here and said 'I can't wait for it to come in, it will be a good thing. Even offside, that's not an opinion - that is black and white. We are still having an opinion on that."

The debate then turned to Shinnie's red card against Ross County on Friday - though that split opinion amongst Boyd, James McFadden and Stiliyan Petrov in the studio.

Boyd continued: "That's a red card. I think even James agrees with it..." McFadden responded saying: "I don't. I think it's a red card, of course."

Petrov chipped in, urging Boyd to show patience: "We understand the frustrations of the ardent decisions, but don't forget it is still new. There is a lot of communication."

Boyd then continued his angry tirade, saying: "See what the problem is, the referee has seen that clearly and was actually going to his pocket and then he used the safety net of 'I'll just wait for VAR'.

"Just make your decision. He has seen it, just make your decision."
