Kris Boyd slapped down live on Sky as Rangers legend accuses host of tampering with his England player ratings

As a proud Ayrshireman with 18 caps for Scotland, there was little chance of Kris Boyd getting carried away with England's 6-2 opening World Cup thrashing of Iran. Especially when the former Rangers striker was in a studio surrounded by fans of the Auld Enemy.

But Boyd accused Sky Sports News anchor Tom White of playing DOWN his Three Lions player ratings – only to be mercilessly slapped down. Boyd appeared on the Qatar World Cup 2022 breakfast show and the Ibrox legend was asked to rate how Gareth Southgate’s England fared in their thumping World Cup opening win over Iran. Boyd understandably gave the players big scores following their brilliant victory over albeit limited opponents. The former Ibrox and Kilmarnock goal machine said: "(Bukayo) Saka and (Jude) Bellingham stood out. Saka two goals, Bellingham’s performance. Declan Rice was excellent in there as well. Mason Mount to start with was getting on the ball and trying to make things happen.”

But fellow pundit, ex Nottingham Forest player David Prutton, pulled former Rangers man Boyd up and said he was being harsh by only awarding Manchester United man Harry Maguire a rating of six.

Boyd, though, replied: “I had him as a seven - you’ve changed that!” However, bemused show host White reacted by saying: “What, on here? It’s not a touch screen, Kris.”

White continued by stating Jordan Pickford made an amazing save and questioned the keeper also only getting a six but Boyd said: “He made an excellent save. That’s what goalkeepers are there for,” which drew comparisons with hard-to-please pundit Roy Keane.
