Kris Boyd launches Celtic defence as Rangers hero hits out at 'leg-breaker' tackle on Starfelt

Kris Boyd has been left stunned that what he believes was a shocking challenge on Carl Starfelt has gone undebated as the Rangers hero provides support for Celtic.

The Hoops have been left dismayed over VAR once again after Jota's 'goal' against Motherwell midweek was chopped off for offside, but the SFA have since confirmed not all the cameras picked it up. It's dominated the discussion but Boyd writes in his Scottish Sun column that it's Josh Morris' challenge on Swedish defender Starfelt that deserves talking about.

It's omission from the VAR conversation shows how poorly it has been operated in its opening weeks according to the former Rangers striker. He said of the Celtic dismay: "What were the VAR lines all about for Jota’s goal, which was ruled out for offside? It was like something a three-year-old had drawn on their Etch-a-Sketch. Offside should be a black and white issue, yet we somehow manage to find grey areas.

"The SFA have since released a statement saying the camera in the Motherwell half failed to capture the incident. But, there was an even more appalling decision in the game.

"The tackle on Carl Starfelt was the worst I have seen all year. It was a proper leg-breaker from Josh Morris, who was way out of control, yet he’s only booked and there is no review.

"How on earth can that be deemed only a yellow while Tony Watt is red carded the other week for pulling out of a challenge? If the Morris incident is not a clear and obvious error then I do not know what is."
