Kris Boyd issues pained Rangers 'don't rub it in' plea as he winces while Liverpool hero Mo Salah stat bomb dropped

It was a tough night for Rangers fans as they watched their side fall to a 7-1 trouncing at the hands of Liverpool - and Ibrox hero Kris Boyd couldn't hide his pain on the night.

Scott Arfield's deadly opener was a distant memory by the end of the Champions League clash at Ibrox as Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah ran riot in Govan, with Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot also getting in on the action as Gio van Bronckhorst's side remain stuck on zero points in the group stage. The result leaves Rangers needing a massive uphill battle to even beat Ajax to third place in Group A and secure a Europa League spot.

By the time Elliot found the net with the seventh of the evening the disappointment was too much for Rangers fans favourite Boyd, who was working on punditry duties on Sky Sports News. Host Julian Warren cut to Boyd with the lead in: "At half-time it was 1-1, but Liverpool have just scored their seventh. Come in Kris Boyd."

Boyd appeared shellshocked by what he had seen from his former club. He responded: "Jules, there is no need to rub it in. It's a seventh, and they checked it for offside but I'm not sure why. 1-1 at half-time but Liverpool have been outstanding. Especially since that man Mohammad Salah came on the pitch. This game can't end quick enough."

Warren then pointed out that the Egypt international had just scored the quickest Champions League hat-trick ever. Boyd bluntly responded: "Good to know, thanks very much."
