Kris Boyd in 'nowhere near' Rangers standard verdict despite Aberdeen rescue mission at Pittodrie

Kris Boyd delivered a 'nowhere near' Rangers standard verdict after the dramatic win over Aberdeen - despite hailing the courage and desire to find a winner at Pittodrie.

Michael Beale's men were trailing 2-1 heading into added-time as supersub Scott Arfield levelled in the 94th minute before firing a winner in the 97th minute to send the Light Blues' players and travelling support wild as they kept their title hopes alive. Moments earlier it looked like Celtic would have the chance to go 12 points clear - but victory means the gap is back to six ahead of the Hoops' clash with Livingston later today.

Boyd knows a lot of hard work needs to happen on the training pitch after back to back five-goal thriller successes. He reckons many of the current side are coming towards the end of their time at the club as he offered his assessment on the game after the whistle.

He told Sky Sports : "I just look at Rangers and they're depending on individuals to do something. They don't seem to be playing as we've seen them in the past. You were heading for a scenario where Celtic could have gone 12 points clear and it's a disaster for Rangers. Now all of sudden its back to six.

"It keeps the slim hopes alive but the one thing from tonight for Michael Beale is there's a lot of hard work to go. Hence the reason why he has the job in the first place but there's a lot of players there coming towards the end of their Rangers career.

"Take nothing away from the fantastic courage and desire to find that winning goal but there's a lot there that is nowhere near the standard that is expected for Rangers."

Beale and Co are back in action on Friday night as they make the trip to Dingwall to face Ross County. It's then a home clash with Motherwell before Celtic make the trip to Ibrox on January 2 in what will be a massive occasion.
