Kremlin: Putin Won't Congratulate Trump, Relations At Historic Low

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Trump meets with supporters in West Palm Beach

Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans to congratulate Donald Trump, according to a Kremlin spokesperson. The spokesperson cited the strained relationship between the two countries, describing the US as an unfriendly nation directly and indirectly involved in conflicts against Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is closely monitoring the US election developments and will refrain from giving an official assessment until concrete words and actions are observed. Peskov emphasized the need for patience, noting that the current US president will remain in office for almost another month and a half.

Peskov highlighted what the Kremlin referred to as significant statements from Trump, particularly his expressed desire to end existing conflicts and avoid starting new ones. The Kremlin is cautious in its approach, acknowledging that political rhetoric can shift once a leader assumes office.

Regarding the potential impact of not congratulating Trump, Peskov suggested that the already strained relations between the two countries could not deteriorate further, as they are currently at their lowest point in history. He emphasized the complexity of international relations and the need for gradual progress in resolving conflicts.

When asked about the possibility of Trump being offended by the lack of congratulations, the Kremlin spokesperson reiterated the existing challenges in US-Russia relations and the long road ahead in improving them. Peskov emphasized the importance of analyzing specific actions and statements to determine the future direction of bilateral ties.
