The Kremlin has denied reports of a conversation between President Vladimir Putin and President-elect Donald Trump regarding the war in Ukraine. The Washington Post initially reported that the two leaders spoke, with Trump allegedly advising Putin against escalating the conflict in Ukraine. However, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov dismissed these claims as 'completely untrue' and 'pure fiction.'
Trump's communications director also declined to comment on the alleged conversation, stating that they do not discuss private calls between the President and other world leaders.
During a foreign policy forum in Sochi, Putin congratulated Trump on his election victory and commended him for his actions during an assassination attempt in July. Peskov mentioned that there are currently no specific plans for a conversation between Putin and Trump, but contacts before Trump's inauguration are not ruled out.
Throughout his campaign, Trump had expressed confidence in his ability to swiftly resolve the conflict in Ukraine, although he did not provide specifics on how he would achieve this. Meanwhile, Russia has increased its attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine as the conflict nears its 1,000-day mark. In response, Ukraine recently deployed a significant number of drones that caused alarm in Moscow and its surrounding areas.
