Kraven the Hunter: Aaron Taylor-Johnson fans react to ‘hyper violent’ new trailer

A new trailer for Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been released—and fans are torn.

Based on the Marvel Comics villain, the new film looks set to be a violent, bloody affair, if the gory trailer is anything to go by.

Sergei Kravinoff, a villain who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man comics, is a Russian immigrant “on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.”

The trailer sees him race through the streets of London to track down his targets, and once he captures them, gore ensues.

(His methods of killing his targets include hitting someone on the head with a bear trap and biting off another man’s nose.)

In a statement at CineEurope last year, Taylor-Johnson said that Kraven is “one of Marvel’s most iconic, notorious anti-heroes—Spider-Man’s number one rival.”

He added that Kraven is “not an alien or a wizard. He’s just a hunter, a human with conviction,” as reported by Collider.

The red band trailer can be viewed on Twitter but beware: it’s not suitable for children–nor for the faint of heart.

Fans have shared mixed reactions to the trailer...

Some fans are not convinced the film will live up to its Spider-Man origins, with one Twitter user saying: “I feel like the only this works to any degree if you have no knowledge or attachment to the source material.

“Which is perhaps why, outside of the Rhino and that one bit with the spiders, there is zero indication that this is a Spider-Man spinoff.”

Another more excited user wrote “Kraven the Hunter looks insane, dumb as hell and hyper violent. I’m interested.”

Another said: “My favourite thing about this trailer is that if you take away the spider moment, I would completely not know that this is a Spider-Man movie.”

However, other fans are okay with the film straying from its source material.

One fan said: “Movie Twitter is doing what it does best, dishing out hate and ridicule for a movie that doesn’t come out for four months based on one trailer.

“Screw that. I’m on board for this. This isn’t the Kraven I know but I think it looks good and I’m interested to see what they do with it.”

The Marvel film, which also stars Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose, will be released in October.
