It has surely already become the latest of so many iconic moments during Jurgen Klopp’s reign as Liverpool manager.
As the red mist from the plethora of pyro drifted across the Wembley turf, Kostas Tsimikas was perched on the shoulders of Adrian, belting out ‘One Kiss’ as his team-mates bounced in celebration and the travelling Kop chorus joined a singalong numbering tens of thousands.
Mere second earlier, Tsimikas had calmly sent Edouard Mendy the wrong way from the spot to convert Liverpool’s seventh penalty and secure an absorbing, nerve-shredding FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea.

As in the League Cup final back in February, there was nothing to separate the sides at the end of 120 exhausting minutes after the pair had done everything but score, Liverpool in particular. It should never have gone to spot kicks.
At least this time we were spared the sight of Alisson Becker – whose save in the shoot-out from Mason Mount proved crucial after Sadio Mane missed the chance to win the game – and Mendy placing the ball 12 yards from goal.
That it was Tsimikas who slotted the winning penalty is significant. Not necessarily because it was the Greek Scouser – and what a popular presence he has proven both in the dressing room and among the fans – contributing the decisive moment.
It was more what he represents, a squad player who knows exactly what his role is in the grand scheme but is always, always ready to deliver when called upon.
Klopp had spoken before the game of how the attitude of his fringe players was crucial in keeping Liverpool’s edge sharp and maintaining the high level of their colleagues.
And, as the Reds boss stated, they have all been needed. There is a reason why Liverpool are still on course for an unprecedented quadruple, a squad that isn’t just laced with quality and desire, but also knows they can rely upon each other when the going gets tough.
This was a trophy victory for all of them – indeed, of the eight players who netted in the competition this season for Liverpool, four were, for varying reasons, not in the matchday squad here. All told, 31 players were used.
As the celebrations continued, Klopp made a point of going to each corner of the Liverpool support to deliver his trademark triple fist-pump. The Chelsea end had long since been almost deserted.
An eighth FA Cup, a second trophy of the season. And the Reds aren’t finished yet. Anfield South, did someone say?
