Korean action drama A Shop For Killers has emerged as the most viewed local original on Disney+ in the Asia Pacific region in 2024. The series, set in contemporary Korea, revolves around college student Jeong Jian who finds herself under attack by a group of skilled assassins. Seeking refuge in her childhood home, Jian must tap into the lessons her late uncle imparted to her to survive. As she unravels her uncle's mysterious past, Jian discovers the secrets hidden within her house and the arsenal it holds. The show features a talented cast including Lee Dongwook and Kim Hyejun, and is based on a popular novel by Kang Jiyoung.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Iron Hill Media is gearing up to release its first film, Geng Kubur, directed by Gavin Yap. This horror flick promises a unique blend of coming-of-age drama and supernatural suspense as a group of teenage outcasts venture into a haunted forest, confronting their fears and unearthing personal truths. With a cast led by Firdaus Sufiyan and executive produced by Michael Chen, Geng Kubur is set to hit Malaysian theaters on April 25.

On the international front, the Osaka Asian Film Festival has announced its 2024 winners. The Grand Prix for Best Picture went to City of Wind from France and Mongolia, directed by Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir. Other notable awards included the Most Promising Talent Award for Lien Chien Hung from Taiwan for Salli, and the ABC TV Award for the same film. The Yakushi Pearl Award went to Chi Yun from Australia and China for Unborn Soul, while the Japan Cuts Award recognized Performing Kaoru's Funeral from Japan, Spain, and Singapore. Special mentions were given to Blue Imagine and On a Boat, among others.

Lastly, the Audience Award at the festival was bestowed upon Amalock from Japan, directed by Nakamura Kazuhiro. These diverse and compelling works showcase the rich tapestry of storytelling in the Asian film industry.
