As Komoot continues its challenge to be one of the best cycling apps, and fresh off the back of new function announcements like the recent Garmin bike computers and smartwatch collaboration, and their partnership with Trash Free Trails for Earth Day Spring Clean. Komoot has now announced the launch of a new Discover features that allows users to find the best mountain bike routes and gravel adventure routes that start at a specific location.
Komoot says its new map interface will offer best-in-class interaction and usability, thanks to the ever-growing 5.5 million route (known as Tours in Komoot) recommendations. Users can browse for cycling, hiking and running adventures that start at their favorite locations, and can further customize searches with in-depth filters for elevation, duration and distance.
With the new map-based interface, Komoot users can also receive Tour recommendations in a specific area and compare them on a map that offers detailed route information at a glance. So whether it’s the current location, a specific address (like public transport hubs, car parks and holiday accommodations) or a dropped pin placed on the map, users can now view the most popular routes that begin from their favorite locations. Komoot says you can also explore the community’s most popular places, as recommended by those who know them best, users can also see routes that include Highlights and find different start locations on the map. The new map interface also includes animated direction markers that indicate route direction, and colored Tour lines that help distinguish between suggested routes and labelled start points.
Jonas Spengler, co-founder and CTO at Komoot spoke about the new features. "Our commitment to become the leading destination for adventure inspiration has been a guiding principle since Komoot’s inception. In this quest, supporting our users to easily find personalized routes for different outdoor activities is fundamental. Hence, we have developed a powerful map interface that makes route discovery faster and more intuitive than ever before, allowing our users to seamlessly browse Tours and identify their location on a map.”
The new Tour Discover features provide a clear overview of the available routes in a specific area. Additionally, users can personalize their search to find inspiration for their next adventure. By filtering routes by elevation, duration, difficulty, and distance, users can receive suggestions that fit their needs and preferences. They can also choose the type of surface (paved or off-road) and the type of route (loop or out and back) to further customize their search.
Users can access the new features now from the Discover feed on the Komoot website, and on the iOS and Android app via the “Find your next adventure” button, users can choose their sport and enter a location to discover routes with that specific starting point. Komoot will then show the most popular routes on the new map interface. Once users have found their favorite Tour, they can either begin the navigation right away, save the route to their profile, and share it with their friends, or customize the route itself in the Tour Planner.
The new Komoot Tour Discover features are available now on the Komoot app (iOS, Android) and web platform at komoot.com, and works on compatible GPS computers and smartwatches.
