Kolkata woke up to grey skies and steady rainfall on Friday, as the monsoon tightened its grip over South Bengal. Streets in several low-lying pockets have already started waterlogging, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) says this is only the beginning — the rain is expected to intensify as the day progresses, with the wet spell likely to run through the weekend and into early next week.
