KOLKATA: The city is all set to get a climate action plan (CAP), mayor Firhad Hakim revealed in a programme organized by Environmental Governed Integrated Organization (EnGIO). An expert committee will be constituted to prepare the CAP draft document, tailor-made to address the city’s climate crises. Kolkata will be the second city after Mumbai to have a CAP. Both are coastal cities and are extremely vulnerable to climate change.
Hakim, who is also Bengal’s transport and urban development minister, had already made a commitment in Copenhagen on complete phasing out of public transport run by diesel and petrol, and replacing them with green vehicles that run on either electricity or CNG by 2030.
