Kolkata: RG Kar’s trauma care centre gets infra boost

KOLKATA: The Trauma Care Centre (TCC) at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital got a major revamp on Thursday when more beds, equipment, services and manpower were pumped into this facility. Prodded by Bengal chief minister Mamatta Banerjee, the centre will now be functional 24x7 with new services introduced for trauma patients.

Sources in the health department said Mamata Banerjee had raised the issue of a number of trauma patients being referred from RGKMCH to IPGMER’s TCC during a health review meet last week . The CM had asked the RGKMCH to improve its trauma care infrastructure so that patients get treatment there. The CM had inaugurated this facility in 2017 as the state’s first TCC.

“We have added 73 more beds including eight HDU Beds. The TCC will now have designated emergency medical officer along with post graduate trainees and senior residents tending to trauma patients round the clock in shifts,” said RGKMCH principal Sandip Ghosh. “We will try upgrading the facility on regular basis to improve the quality of services further within a month,” said hospital’s Rogi Kalyan Samity chairman and Trinamool Congress MLA Sudipta Roy.

Roy along director health services Siddhartha Niyogi, Kolkata deputy mayor Atin Ghosh and other hospital officials inspected the eight-storey TCC building to assess the rooms for improvement. A waiting shed for the kin of patients was also inaugurated on Thursday.
