KOLKATA: PM Narendra Modi and CM Mamata Banerjee on Sunday celebrated the centenary of a monk who joined Ramakrishna Math and Mission when he was 22, and remained a part of it for 76 years to become RKM’s 15th president. Modi recalled the time he spent with Swami Atmasthananda, and said he was fortunate to talk to him in Gujarati. The PM also referred to the Kutch earthquake when relief work was carried out under the monk’s guidance.
“Everyone knows the saints of Ramakrishna Mission as conductors of national unity in the country. And, when he goes abroad, he represents Indian-ness there,” Modi said.
